Drum Brakes
Repair Your Car’s Drum Brakes
Drum Brakes aren’t as common as Disc Brakes these days, but they are still seen on a wide range of vehicles. They use friction-lined shoes inside of a drum to slow down your vehicle, as you apply the brake, the brake shoes wear down and need to be replaced. Most vehicles with drum brakes have them on the rear wheels of the car, while the front wheels have the more common disc brakes. Although drum brakes degrade at a far slower rate than disc brakes, they still require servicing and will wear out as you drive your vehicle.
It’s important to make sure they are working properly and don’t have any cracks to ensure your vehicle has the best stopping power.
Although the process for replacing drum brakes is rather straightforward, it takes a bit more time than disc brakes and we prefer the eye of a more seasoned technician to ensure your vehicle’s safety. Typically drum brake repairs or replacements require your vehicle to be in our shop for one full business day. Drum Brakes are relatively similar between vehicles and tend to cost around $400 to $450 to service.
As with all brake-related repairs, the process can release brake dust which is very hazardous. All our technicians wear proper PPE, including quality masks, to ensure everyone’s safety.
